In an interview Drowned in Sound, Reznor opens up about how he feels about social networking and Facebook. Over the last couple years, the only time he really ever gets on any form of a social network is to promote his work. He has been quoted as saying “Facebook sucks.”
He states he doesn’t like he “falseness” that social networks offer, rather than the being genuine in real person. He also states that if as many listened to Joy Division and “liked” them on Facebook, that they would be bigger than U2. Bottom line, online people portray themselves how they hope to be portrayed, rather than how they truly are. He states than he doesn’t like the disconnect that social networking has on real relationships. In the same breath, he also states it has helped him get in contact with people he hasn’t seen in a while.
He also didn’t have too many nice things to say about Facebook and Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg by saying he disagrees with so many people when they put him on the same pedestal as Steve Jobs saying he was only in the right place at the right time with a functional tool.
What do you think? Do you think this is possible?
