We’ve all had those moments where we see something and look away, but find ourselves doing a double take because we aren’t really sure if our eyes were correct. Most of the time it’s just our minds playing tricks on us. There have been a few times however, where what I thought I saw was really there and pretty much mind-blowing. This set of pictures had me doing double takes on each and every single one of them, they truly are that incredible. It looks like something straight out of a Disney movie, but what you’re seeing is very real.
Tell me you wouldn’t have to do a double take if you saw this? This entire sculpture is made out of sand believe it or not!
This hyper realistic sand sculpture is the brain child of world-renowned sculptor (mostly pumpkins) Ray Villafane and artist Sue Beatrice.
The sculpture of the elephant stands an astonishing 9 feet tall!
The elephant is depicted playing a game of chess with a field mouse.
Sue even created a back story for the scene!
“There was a young elephant named Chessie
who ate peanuts but was very messy
when a mouse had him beat
and with no way to cheat
he made one last move and compressed him.”
They even named the animals. The elephant’s name is Chessie Trunkston.
The field mouse’s name is Hershel Higginbottom.
The tediousness of this project must have been absolutely exhausting.

This thing is truly incredible. I never would have thought sand could be manipulated so precisely. This takes almost surgical like precision. It seems that every last detail was thought of in trying to portray these animals as accurate as possible. This piece of amazing art is on display at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavillion in downtown Carefree, Arizona. So if you are in the area, you should really check it out!
