I’m sure if there were cameras in these insane asylums back in the day, we would be deeply disturbed by what we would see. These walls hold a lot of secrets and it’s probably best if it stays that way! Rather than finding out all of the secrets of these asylums, lets take a look inside of them long after the last patient was gone. I am sure I’ll be having nightmares tonight!
The above pictures from the Armand Auclerc Weston State Hospital, which used to be known as the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. It’s located in Weston, West Virginia and was open from 1864 – 1994.
This is Cane Hill Asylum. It’s located in Croydon, London. It was open from 1883 – 1990.
Open from 1896 – 1975, this is The Essex County Hospital Center also known as The Overbrook Asylum.
In Buffalo, New York you will find the H.H. Richardson Complex, which used to be known as The Buffalo State Asylum For The Insane. It was used from 1881 – 1975.
Open from 1890 – 1998, The Hartwood Mental Hospital is located in Hartwood, Scotland.
This is the Kings Park Psychiatric Center which is in Kings Park, New York. It was used regularly from 1885 – 1996.
